BEAUMONT, Calif. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter, 
San Jacinto (Calif.) held on for a 31-17 victory over 
Beaumont (Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Tigers was that they scored a touchdown.
The Cougars pulled ahead on a field goal by 
Alex Raya, and subsequently went into halftime leading 17-6. The Tigers scored the winning points with a touchdown that came in the fourth quarter.
San Jacinto entered the contest giving up 26.3 points per game this year. A defensively strong SJ kept Beaumont well above the 5.3 points it had been averaging per game.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Tigers, who were coming off a 29-8 defeat at the hands of Tahquitz in its previous game. The victory snapped San Jacinto's two-game losing streak.
In a Mountain Pass game next week Beaumont (0-8) takes on Hemet, and San Jacinto (4-4) will go up against West Valley also in a Mountain Pass game.
