Starkville Academy's game  last Friday was a  loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them  on Friday. They came out on top against the Lamar Raiders by a score of  28-20. For the Volunteers, this counts as revenge for the   27-7 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another  back in August of 2024.
 On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Starkville Academy's defense and their six sacks. Lamar's QB  won't forget  Brody Burkley anytime soon given he sacked him three times. With that strong performance,  Burkley is now averaging an impressive 5.2  total tackles per game.  Bristo Santucci was another major factor on D,  picking up  a  sack and making 17 total tackles (2.0 for loss) in addition to snagging  an  interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
 When it comes to explaining why Lamar lost, don't look at  Tyler Brown. Despite the final result, he rushed for 62 yards and two  touchdowns on only six carries. Brown also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D,  picking up  a  sack, forcing one fumble,  and making 15 total tackles (2.0 for loss).  Sullivan Reed helped out on the ground, rushing for 102 yards and a  rushing touchdown.
Starkville Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Lamar,  this is the second loss in a row for them and  nudges their season record down to 6-3.
 Both  teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Starkville Academy will welcome Heritage Academy  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. As for Lamar, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Winston Academy  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday.
