The Etowah Blue Devils fell victim to the Cherokee County Warriors''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Warriors, falling 49-0. Having soared to a lofty 49 points in the game before, Etowah couldn't push the score so high this time.
Jacob Cornejo got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 268 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 15.8 yards per carry. Cornejo is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Etowah's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.8 points per game. As for Cherokee County, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Etowah will take on Cullman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cullman presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Etowah in Alabama (Cullman is ranked 109th, while Etowah is ranked 234th). As for Cherokee County, they will head out on the road to face off against Ashville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashville is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
