Calvert and Lakota are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Senecas will square off against the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Calvert is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
Calvert's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on St. Mary Central Catholic with a sharp 18-0 win. Considering the Senecas have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Eilrich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Gracie Miller was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Alyssa Rishty was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lakota came up short against Hopewell-Loudon on Monday, falling 19-6. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Chieftains recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Lexi Moon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Calvert's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Lakota, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calvert hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .486. However, it's not like Lakota struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
