Basketball Recap: University Prep Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact University Prep can now relate to. They fell to Fortune Early College 65-61. That makes it the first time this season University Prep has let down their home crowd.

When it comes to explaining why University Prep lost on Saturday, don't look at Adam Gire. Despite the final result, he shot 71% from the field to rack up 28 points and seven boards. With that strong performance, Gire is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. Aiden Hall was another key player, going 5-for-11 on his way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, University Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They posted seven more assists than Fortune Early College's also-impressive total of 12.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fortune Early College to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaden Bean, who posted 15 points and five assists. Bean is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Malachi Hollingsworth, who put up 17 points.

University Prep suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 26-9. As for Fortune Early College, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season.

University Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fortune Early College, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Fortune Early College Panthers take on International Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. They are on a seven-game streak of home wins, International a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
