Softball Recap: South Fork Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

South Fork's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They blew past the Morningside Academy Eagles 18-1. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jada Dames was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Elliana Hernandez and Abbie Dewaters did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez got on base in three of her eight plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Dewaters went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Dewaters has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Ortiz, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

South Fork always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Fork is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Morningside Academy, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-4.

Looking ahead, South Fork will host Okeechobee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morningside Academy, they are taking a road trip to face off against Bayside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
