The Trego Golden Eagles will face off against the Russell Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Trego has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Russell will arrive with five straight victories.
Trego is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Hoxie on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Trego was dealt a 60-30 defeat at the hands of Hoxie. The Golden Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-10.

Despite the loss, Trego saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bailey Ziegler almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Ziegler has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Russell hadn't done well against Thomas More Prep-Marian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Russell managed a 49-45 win over Thomas More Prep-Marian.
Russell's win came from a few key players Trego will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Norah Mooney, who posted ten points along with six assists and six boards. Those six assists gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Birney, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Russell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.
Russell pushed their record up to 9-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Trego, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Trego has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Russell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Trego ended up a good deal behind Russell in their previous matchup back in January, losing 45-26. Will Trego have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
