The Southampton Academy Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 60-44 to Rock Church.
Despite the loss, Southampton Academy saw an underclassman step up: G Applewhite dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Applewhite scored a full 27.3% of Southampton Academy's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. J Holland was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Southampton Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Rock Church, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy will challenge Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southampton Academy in Virginia (Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is ranked 107th, while Southampton Academy is ranked 266th). Rock Church's road trip will continue as they head out to face Isle of Wight Academy at 6:30 p.m. on December 1st.
