The Cocke County Fighting Cocks will face off against the Carter Green Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cocke County is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
On Friday, Cocke County needed a bit of extra time to put away Karns. They had just enough and edged out the Beavers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Cocks have posted since April 10, 2024.

Ellie Proffitt made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adisen Mcnealy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Carsie Ellison, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Cocke County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carter). Everything went their way against Fulton on Tuesday as they made off with a 24-6 win. The Green Hornets haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Carter got a massive performance out of Marah Yeo, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Addy Freeman was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Cocke County pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Carter, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cocke County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .554. However, it's not like Carter struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cocke County suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Carter in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Fighting Cocks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
