The Sandusky Wolves will challenge the Bad Axe Hatchets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sandusky has four straight victories, Bad Axe has 13 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sandusky is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 9th on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Mayville 5-4.
Bryce Kiley was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Ball, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bad Axe scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 16-3 to Vassar.
Damon Blackstock made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Sandusky pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Bad Axe, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Sandusky's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Wolves have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bad Axe, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sandusky continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Sandusky's way against Bad Axe when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Sandusky made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
