Penn Wood hasn't had much luck against Interboro recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Patriots will square off against the Buccaneers at 3:45 p.m. Penn Wood has given up an average of 14.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Penn Wood's last matchup with Chester could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Patriots lost 12-5 to the Clippers.
Bryan Romero made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Saiheim Johnson-Robinson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Interboro never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against Academy Park as they made off with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Buccaneers have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayden Pfaff made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Dean, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Vazquez, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Interboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy Park only posted an OBP of .385.
Penn Wood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Interboro, their record now sits at 12-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Penn Wood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Interboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Penn Wood suffered a grim 17-3 defeat to Interboro in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
