Baseball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. North Brunswick Scorpions

Hoggard is 8-2 against North Brunswick since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Hoggard Vikings will challenge the North Brunswick Scorpions at 6:30 p.m. Hoggard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Hoggard proved they can win big on Friday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past South Brunswick 8-6. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.

Jake Jeffrey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Jeffrey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Jeffrey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Preston Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Smith a new career-high.

Hoggard lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, North Brunswick didn't have quite enough to beat New Hanover on Tuesday and fell 3-2. The Scorpions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hoggard's record now sits at 3-4. As for North Brunswick, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Hoggard's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. Hoggard has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for North Brunswick, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hoggard continue to outrun the ball?

Hoggard came out on top in a nail-biter against North Brunswick in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Does Hoggard have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Brunswick turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
