The Gray's Creek Bears will head out to challenge the South View Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Gray's Creek is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Lumberton on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Gray's Creek took a blow against Lumberton, falling 76-43. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ezekiel Reed, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Quion Andrews, who had ten points.
Meanwhile, South View waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Rams 62-39. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season.
Gray's Creek better keep an eye on Antrell Gilmore. He was instrumental in South View's win, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. The game was Gilmore's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakari Jordan, who posted six points along with 13 boards and eight blocks.
South View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2023.
Gray's Creek's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for South View, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Gray's Creek has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.7 boards per game. However, it's not like South View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Gray's Creek couldn't quite finish off South View in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 48-45. Can Gray's Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
