Football Recap: Eastern Alamance Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Eastern Alamance can now relate to. They fell just short of the Hunt Warriors by a score of 30-28 on Friday. The Eagles gained 244 more yards on the day, but it was the Warriors that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Eastern Alamance still got an impressive performance from Sammy Raphael, who rushed for 231 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Raphael is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Eastern Alamance also got a significant boost from Jamez Cochran, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 97 yards.

Even if they lost, Eastern Alamance's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Trinity Totten with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 16 games he's played dating back to last season. Jarrett Newell was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Leading Hunt to victory were Doryan Jones and Mez Harris. Jones rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown, while Harris rushed for 55 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Harris' longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jeremiah Thomas also made an appearance on special teams (luckily for Hunt): his a 47-yard strike wound up winning them the game.

Eastern Alamance's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Hunt, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2.

Eastern Alamance does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hunt, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 42-21 win against Southern Nash on the 21st.
