Two dominant guards in Lucas Shaw and Jacob Scruggs are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Waldron Mohawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the South Decatur Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Waldron beat the Titans 60-56.
Shaw was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Keith Settles, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, South Decatur beat the Shiners 69-58 on Saturday. The win was just what South Decatur needed coming off of a 77-51 defeat in their prior matchup.
Waldron has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. As for South Decatur, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-8.
Waldron came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cougars in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, sneaking past 56-54. Does Waldron have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
