The Iowa Colony Pioneers will be home for the holidays to greet the Fort Bend Dulles Vikings at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Fort Bend Dulles took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Iowa Colony, who comes in off a win.
Iowa Colony had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bay City and snuck past 31-29. Given Iowa Colony's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 347th, while Bay City is ranked 880th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Iowa Colony's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Payton Watson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Watson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenadie Francis, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Fort Bend Dulles was beaten by Fort Bend Hightower 63-31 last Friday. Fort Bend Dulles was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-14.
Despite the loss, Fort Bend Dulles got a solid performance out of Callie Goodly, who scored 21 points along with four steals.
Iowa Colony is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Fort Bend Dulles, they bumped their record down to 5-11 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Iowa Colony have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Fort Bend Dulles, though, as they've been averaging only 31.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
