Basketball Recap: Lake Marion Drops Highest Score of Season Against Calhoun County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Marion). They were the clear victor by an 84-60 margin over the Calhoun County Saints on Thursday. While the Gators didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Lake Marion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Miles, who went 7 of 11 en route to 20 points. With that strong performance, Miles is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Smith, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 20 points.

Lake Marion was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

Lake Marion's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Calhoun County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Marion won't have much time to rest: their next game is against White Knoll at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Marion has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Calhoun County, they will take on Lake Marion at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
