Westland is 0-3 against Grove City since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Westland Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grove City Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Westland and four for Grove City.
Westland fell victim to Westerville Central's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 38-0 loss at the hands of the Warhawks. While losing is never fun, Westland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 428th, while Westerville Central is ranked 129th).
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 56-28, which was the final score in Grove City's tilt against Lincoln on Friday.
Despite the defeat, Grove City got a solid performance out of Ayden Mckinstry, who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Mckinstry was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Easton Hill got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Westland's loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.11 points per game. As for Grove City, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Westland took a serious blow against Grove City in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 48-7. Will Westland have more luck at home instead of on the road?
