Jesus Martinez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Spring is undefeated when Martinez posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, Anthony Cuarenta was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Julian Curry was another key player, going 2-for-6 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Eisenhower came up short against MacArthur on Friday and fell 7-3. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Eisenhower saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kameron Gourley, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Spring's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Eisenhower, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spring has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Eisenhower struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Spring beat Eisenhower 11-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Spring repeat their success, or does Eisenhower has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
