The Santa Fe Catholic Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the McKeel Academy Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Santa Fe Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 37 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Santa Fe Catholic ended up a good deal behind Cambridge Christian and lost 41-24. Santa Fe Catholic has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Sofia Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 steals. She scored a full 70.8% of Santa Fe Catholic's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyler Brown, who scored 3 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, McKeel Academy came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Ridgeview Global Studies Academy as McKeel Academy made off with a 51-27 win. Considering McKeel Academy has won three contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
McKeel Academy can attribute much of their success to Ava Anderson, who scored 16 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Anderson hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Jenna Jordan was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 9 rebounds.
The losses dropped Santa Fe Catholic to 1-3 and Cambridge Christian to 1-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Santa Fe Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like McKeel Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 46 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
