Vallejo has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Acalanes Dons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vallejo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 434th, while Acalanes is ranked 134th).
Vallejo had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They secured a 28-22 W over Del Norte on Friday.
Vallejo's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jasier Smith, who threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and David Buddha Bernstine III, who picked up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Smith hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games.
Meanwhile, Acalanes put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Mt. Diablo 56-14 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-6.
Acalanes had a senior duo take command as Sully Bailey threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes and Henry Souza picked up 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jake Boselli got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Vallejo is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Acalanes, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Vallejo was taken down by Acalanes 50-0 when the teams last played back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Acalanes' Bailey, who rushed for 35 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes.
