The Forest Wildcats will face off against the South Sumter Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Forest easily dispatched DeLand on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Wildcats fell just short of Lake Minneola by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Jaiden Prestipino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Rilynn Fountain, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but South Sumter ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against Hernando by a score of 8-4. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by exactly four runs.
Raven Parker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Parker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Maddox Adams was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Emily Barnes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
South Sumter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
South Sumter has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Forest, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Forest's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Sumter, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Forest continue to outrun the ball?
Forest couldn't quite get it done against South Sumter in their previous matchup last Friday as they fell 7-4. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
