A feisty cat fight will be fought as Resurrection Christian Cougars face off against Lutheran Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Resurrection Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Resurrection Christian managed to slip by Brush the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cougars lost 7-1 to the Beetdiggers on Thursday. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Resurrection Christian got a good showing from Merick Fisbeck, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Fisbeck has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Resurrection Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braedyn Budd, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lutheran, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Green Mountain on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-1.
Lutheran also got a great performance from Jack Poe as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Poe a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Wesolowski, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Connor Sanders, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Lutheran's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Resurrection Christian, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Resurrection Christian might still be hurting after the 13-4 loss they got from Lutheran when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
