On Friday, The Clovis Wildcats faced the Los Lunas Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Clovis won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Los Lunas 30-29. The victory was familiar territory for Clovis who now have four in a row.
Clovis had a senior duo take command as Kash Roberts rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry and Jett Stone rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Roberts is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.
Despite the loss, Los Lunas still got an impressive performance from Fabian Trujillo, who picked up 185 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Clovis' victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points per game. As for Los Lunas, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clovis will take on Hobbs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hobbs has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 149 points over their last three matchups. As for Los Lunas, they will head out on the road to face off against Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Las Cruces is ranked eighth, while Los Lunas is ranked 11th).
