St. Bernard and South Fork are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2024, but likely not for long. The Crusaders will venture away from home to square off against the Cubs at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: St. Bernard's has struggled recently with nine losses in a row, while South Fork will arrive with eight straight wins.
St. Bernard's fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Ferndale on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 25-21 to the Wildcats. On the bright side, the 21- run effort marked the Crusaders' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Aryanna Osborne was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off four hits. Osborne was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five runs, three RBI, and two doubles. She also snagged a stolen base, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, St. Bernard's got a big performance out of Logan Tallman, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Claira Hoffman also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, South Fork made easy work of Hoopa Valley on Friday and carried off a 13-7 victory. Considering the Cubs have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Hailey Shepherd, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Young, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
St. Bernard's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for South Fork, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Bernard's hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like South Fork struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Bernard's suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to South Fork in their previous matchup on April 7th. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
