The West Jefferson Roughriders will face off against the Bishop Ready Silver Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, West Jefferson made easy work of Triad and carried off a 19-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Roughriders.
Hailey McBrayer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. McBrayer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, West Jefferson let Kimberly Warnock and Payton Kincade run wild. Warnock went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Kincade went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Zoey Brown, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Bishop Ready made sure to put some runs up on the board against Bexley on Wednesday. The Silver Knights blew past the Lions 14-4.
Avalyn McCoy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Cunningham, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Bishop Ready kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.
West Jefferson's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Bishop Ready, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Bishop Ready's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. West Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop Ready, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will West Jefferson keep running through batters, or will the Silver Knights buck the trend?
