Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chardon). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the North Rangers on Wednesday, sneaking past 14-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilltoppers have posted since April 20, 2024.
Tim Robertson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Chardon got a massive performance out of Ty Roediger, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Roediger is becoming a predictor of the Hilltoppers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jayden Buth, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Chardon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Chardon's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-6. As for North, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Coming up, Chardon will host Louisville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for North, they will face off against Western Reserve Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
