The Shields Panthers lost to the Hillcrest Jaguars back in December of 2021, but the Shields Panthers didn't allow the Hillcrest Jaguars the same satisfaction on Thursday. Shields walked away with a 52-42 victory over Hillcrest. Given Shields' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Hillcrest is ranked 300th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hillcrest's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ashlyn Kyser, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kyser continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sonija Evans, who scored 9 points along with 6 steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Shields and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Hillcrest, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Shields will play host again and welcome W.S. Neal, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillcrest will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Escambia County at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th.
