The Palm Bay Pirates will face off against the Cocoa Beach Minutemen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palm Bay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Palm Bay is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Titusville on Monday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Terriers. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Terriers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Timothy Owens made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Cocoa Beach entered their tilt with Astronaut on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the War Eagles 11-5. The Minutemen not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12th.
Connor McGrew made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kristian Wolfe, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Anthony Ceruti was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Cocoa Beach pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Palm Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Palm Bay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cocoa Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Palm Bay might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Cocoa Beach when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
