IV Section I recap Oct. 3, 2012
Blue Ridge extended the longest winning streak in IV Section I this week by beating St. Johns, 45-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Yellow Jackets.
Ganado was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to seventh in the league. The Hornets defeated Red Mesa 50-32 earlier in the week.
Gregory Williams made the biggest impact on defense this week as Monument Valley bested Tuba City. The 5-foot-11 junior grabbed two sacks.
Kervin Tom was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs topped the Warriors. Tom tallied eight receptions for 127 yards. Tasi Malala helped Monument Valley's passing attack out by catching five balls for 79 yards.
Nolan Cook was the most productive running back in IV Section I this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 193 yards as Blue Ridge beat Tuba City. Teammate Bradley Syth added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.
Chase Walden put up the best numbers through the air as Snowflake bested Winslow. He finished with 11 completions for 221 yards and four touchdowns. Walden's favorite target this week was Braccin Tanner, who caught four passes for 103 yards.
Bryan Begay's team's Redmond Delmar and Malala have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Delmar has thrown for 1414 yards this season, while Malala, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 26 catches for 519 yards. Paul Moro's team's Cook leads the league in rushing yards with 848.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Yellow Jackets take on Alchesay. Blue Ridge's offense has racked up 286 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Falcons have allowed only 278 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bulldogs take on Show Low. As it stands, Winslow is in fourth, while the Cougars are in first.
The Yellow Jackets took down the Redskins 45-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cook in the win.
