The Moffat County Bulldogs were the 54-45 winner over the Summit Tigers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Moffat County took a 72-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Summit on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Moffat County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Champ hafey, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Bryant Carlson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with three steals.
Summit's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eduardo Gutierrez led the charge by scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gutierrez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hank Chabot, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and four steals.
Moffat County has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Summit, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Moffat County will take on Delta at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Delta is ranked 167th, while Moffat County is ranked 153rd). As for Summit, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Steamboat Springs at 2:00 p.m. Hopefully Steamboat Springs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
