Indianapolis Lutheran is a perfect 5-0 against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Saints will host the Braves at 10:00 a.m. The timing is sure in Indianapolis Lutheran's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
Indianapolis Lutheran barely beat Monrovia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Saints' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Indianapolis Lutheran let Avery Langston and Shae Olson run wild. Langston went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Olson went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles Olson has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Leyla Miller, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Indianapolis Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monrovia only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory hadn't done well against Heritage Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Braves were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Eagles. The Braves not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23rd (when they won 21-1).
Sophie Braun was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Lila Epstein was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Elle Feltman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Indianapolis Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Indianapolis Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Indianapolis Lutheran came out on top in a nail-biter against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
