Plateau Valley is 0-1 against Elbert since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Plateau Valley Cowboys will face off against the Elbert Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. Plateau Valley is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Plateau Valley pushed their score all the way to 40 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a tough 62-40 loss at the hands of Rangely. Plateau Valley gained 101 more yards on the day, but it was Rangely that made the best of use of them.
Despite their defeat, Plateau Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Virgil james Kuper, who rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Kuper was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Devon Ealey, who picked up 216 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot offensive attacks in their last three game, Elbert finally came back down to earth on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 56-12 loss at the hands of Simla. While losing is never fun, Elbert can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Simla is ranked second).
The losses dropped Plateau Valley to 2-6 and Elbert to 5-3.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Plateau Valley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 178 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Elbert struggles in that department as they've been averaging 170.1 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Plateau Valley took a serious blow against Elbert in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 56-23. Can Plateau Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
