5A Region III District 20 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Lamar extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 20 this week by beating Westside, 42-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Redskins.
Madison moved up to 290 from 394 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Marlins were able to make the jump by defeating Chavez 41-0.
Lamar's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Darrell Colbert threw for 111 and three touchdowns and Shelby Walker had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Ronnie Wesley chipped in 124 yards. Justin Hollie helped Lamar's passing attack out by catching one ball for 24 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Colbert of Tom Nolen's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 977. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. On the ground, the Wolves' Xavier Holman has rushed for 509 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Bobby Hartzog. The Westside star has 17 catches for 414 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 20 this week will be when the Redskins take on Houston Math Science & Tech. As it stands, Lamar is in first, while the Tigers are in fifth.
Madison took down the Lobos 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
