Kylie Stidd was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edyn McGary, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Myah Martin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Monroe Central gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Shadyside 14-3. Considering the Seminoles have won 11 games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Union Local, Monroe Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Allie McFredrick. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. McFredrick was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Monroe Central got a massive performance out of Karsyn Muncy, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Jadyn Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases and three RBI.
Union Local's record now sits at 4-12. As for Monroe Central, their record is now 15-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union Local has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monroe Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Union Local might still be hurting after the 18-2 defeat they got from Monroe Central when the teams last played on April 7th. Can the Jets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
