Mathis easily dispatched Odem on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Pirates fell just short of the Aransas Pass Panthers by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The Pirates' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Mathis got a good showing from Silas Gonzalez, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Mathis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Exzavier Ybarra, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Mathis' loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-6. As for Aransas Pass, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-14.

While Mathis had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
