The Wasatch Wasps will challenge the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wasatch has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wasatch is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Spanish Fork on Tuesday. They came up short against the Dons, falling 13-2.
Liana Jones and Mali Evans stepped up to the plate in a big way. Jones went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI, while Evans went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buffaloes a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Sentinels have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Red Brooks made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brooks was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Chloe Tycksen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Sydney Lambert was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Mountain Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .476 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Mountain Ridge's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Wasatch, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Wasatch hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wasatch suffered a grim 15-9 defeat to Mountain Ridge when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Will the Wasps have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
