Mesa is 1-6 against Hamilton since November of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mesa Jackrabbits will take on the Hamilton Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Mesa will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Mesa can't be too worried about heading out to take on Hamilton: they just beat Mountain View at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Mesa came out on top against Mountain View by a score of 49-38 on Thursday.
Mesa found their leader in freshman Taylor Morris, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Morris is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Charly Pacheco also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday's Canine Competition, Hamilton came out on top. They blew past Chandler 70-42 on Tuesday. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Wolves are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mesa better keep an eye on Taylor Sipfle. She was instrumental in Hamilton's win, going 8-for-9 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Sipfle has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Destinee Benway, who had ten points in addition to five assists and five boards.
Hamilton's record is now 15-11. As for Mesa, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mesa has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hamilton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mesa came up short against Hamilton when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 50-37. Can Mesa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
