After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cienega, Rincon/University was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the South Mountain Jaguars 9-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Rangers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Valentino Sandoval was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. Sandoval was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarod Villareal, who scored a run and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Keith Cook also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Rincon/University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Mountain only posted an OBP of .357.
Rincon/University's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for South Mountain, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rincon/University will host Desert View at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season. As for South Mountain, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Marcos de Niza at 3:45 p.m.
