Decatur has gone 9-1 against Springtown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Decatur Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Springtown Porcupines at 11:00 a.m. Decatur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Decatur came up short against Eagle Mountain and fell 7-4.
Alexa Beeson put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Beeson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hallie Washburn, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave Washburn a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Springtown came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 15-3 win. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Kylee Spray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks.
On the hitting side, Springtown got a massive performance out of Riley Fagan, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Falcon, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Springtown pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Decatur, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Decatur hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Springtown struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Decatur couldn't quite finish off Springtown in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can Decatur avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
