The Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs struggled with assists on Friday (the Cornerstone Family Saints had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Shawnee Mission Christian was outmatched by the Saints on the road and fell 53-16. Shawnee Mission Christian has not had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Shawnee Mission Christian still got an impressive performance from Jeydan Umberger, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Umberger is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Anderson, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Cornerstone Family was led to victory by Lexi Culberth and Kaylee Heinen. Culberth scored 11 points along with eight steals, while Heinen scored 26 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Culberth has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Liz Brown, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Shawnee Mission Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Cornerstone Family, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee Mission Christian will take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cornerstone Family, they will play host again and welcome the Nighthawks, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
