The King Mustangs lost against the Gregory-Portland Wildcats back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. King suffered a tough 58-33 defeat at the hands of Gregory-Portland. While losing is never fun, King can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1155th, while Gregory-Portland is ranked 443rd).
Gregory-Portland found their leader in underclassman Bella Davis, who scored 20 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of Gregory-Portland's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Kilgore, who scored 7 points along with 18 rebounds and 3 blocks.
King has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Gregory-Portland, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.
King will be home for the holidays to greet Victoria East at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gregory-Portland, they will head out on the road to face off against Floresville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Floresville is on a three-game streak of home wins, Gregory-Portland a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
