The Garfield G-Men were the 43-37 winner over the Liberty Leopards when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Garfield fell just short of Liberty by a score of 33-30.
Despite the loss, Garfield saw an underclassman step up: Mandy Cardinal scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 56.7% of Garfield's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kaelyn Tasker, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Garfield dropped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.7 points per game. As for Liberty, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-14.
Garfield will take on Newton Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Newton Falls is ranked 644th, while Garfield is ranked 665th). As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to challenge LaBrae at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
