The American Patriots's three-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 40-22 victory over Coral Park. That's another feather in the cap for American, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
American was led to victory by Lajahnique Olive and Allison Pena. Olive scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three blocks, while Pena scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sade Resves, who scored six points.
Several Rams players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ivana Montoya, who scored four points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Montoya has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Melanie Castellanos, who scored seven points along with five steals.
American's win was their third straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1. Despite that those good results, the team's offense hasn't been rolling: across that stretch, they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Coral Park, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
American will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mourning at 4:30 p.m. Mourning's defense has only allowed 21.4 points per game this season, so American's offense will have their work cut out for American. As for Coral Park, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Brendan at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Brendan is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
