5A Region II District 15 recap October 29, 2013
Austin scaled the state rankings by moving to 615 from 652 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 15. The Maroons were able to move up by topping Anderson 34-14.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Lake Travis beat Del Valle 47-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Lake Travis' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dominic De Lira threw for 126 and 3 touchdowns and Grant Foster had 62 yards receiving. On the ground Varshaun Nixon contributed 90 yards. Jordan Markim helped Lake Travis' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 54 yards.
Nixon was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 90 yards on 4 carries as Hank Carter's team defeated the Cardinals. Michael Mullett also contributed to the rushing game with 52 yards on the ground.
The Cavaliers' De Lira and Tyler Payne have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A Region II District 15 in both passing and receiving yards. De Lira has thrown for 1,424 yards this season, while Payne has 28 catches for 489 yards. Teddy Lowery from Akins leads the league in rushing with 937 yards.
In 137 carries Lowery has accumulated 937 yard this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Lake Travis takes on Westlake. As it stands, the Cavaliers are in first, while the Chaparrals are in third.
Bowie took down the Eagles 59-17 last week, the largest margin of any game.
