Hugoton and Lakin are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Broncs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hugoton is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Hugoton didn't have quite enough to beat Stanton County and fell 2-1.

Neftali Tinoco was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Lakin hadn't done well against Goodland recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Broncs skirted past the Cowboys 8-7.
Kiah Beymer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Atlantis Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Paiton Talmadge was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Lakin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Lakin is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Hugoton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hugoton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lakin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hugoton might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Lakin in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
