The South-Doyle Cherokees were the 45-35 winner over the Carter Green Hornets when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. South-Doyle fell 55-47 to Carter on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, South-Doyle saw an underclassman step up: Payton Rollins scored 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Rollins scored a full 48.9% of South-Doyle's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lacey Ermer, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, South-Doyle were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Carter can attribute much of their success to Lily Lampkin, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Lampkin scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Craig, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
South-Doyle's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Carter, their victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South-Doyle will take on Lenoir City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carter and Northview Academy will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Northview Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
