Baseball Recap: Midview Wins Going Away Against Black River

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Brunswick, Midview was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Black River Pirates with a sharp 8-2 victory. For the Middies, this counts as revenge for the 8-3 win the Pirates walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Daniel Melendez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Jacob Armburger looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits.

Back at the plate, Midview let Cason Pelko and Kaiden Vogelpohl run wild. Pelko went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Vogelpohl went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Chase Harper was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Midview has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Black River, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-10.

Looking ahead, Midview will be taking part in a tournament against Olmsted Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.15 runs per game on average), something the Middies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Black River, they will head out to face off against Loudonville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
