Chavez is 2-8 against North Hollywood since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chavez Eagles' road trip will continue as they head out to face the North Hollywood Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Chavez suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were dealt a 75-25 defeat at the hands of Arleta. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chavez in their matchups with Arleta: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, North Hollywood ended up a good deal behind Verdugo Hills on Wednesday and lost 60-42. While losing is never fun, North Hollywood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 878th, while Verdugo Hills is ranked 366th).
Despite the defeat, North Hollywood saw an underclassman step up: Caymen Smith scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Chase Guillory, who scored six points.
Chavez's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-11. As for North Hollywood, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Chavez was taken down by North Hollywood 51-23 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Chavez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
