With a playoff win on the line, Cedar Grove rose to the challenge on Friday. They skirted past the Butler Bulldogs 24-21. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Pierce Asfalg was his usual excellent self, rushing for 88 yards and two scores, while also throwing for 262 yards and one touchdown. Cedar Grove also relied on Asfalg, who's 48-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game. Jake Catanzarite was another key player, picking up 107 receiving yards and one TD.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cedar Grove's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was George Dakar with two.
Despite the loss, Butler still got an impressive performance from David Smith, who rushed for 301 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Smith showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 57 yards.
Cedar Grove's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Butler, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.
Looking ahead, Cedar Grove will face off against Glassboro at 12:00 p.m. on the 30th. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Butler does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
